Doctor Strange First Look!

Not 20 minutes ago the first trailer for Marvel’s Doctor Strange was just released online @marvelentertainment youtube channel. Firstly appearing on Jimmy Kimmel last night, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed the first look at some footage from the film. Now that the trailer has been released online for the world to see, let’s break down what we saw and what we can expect.

The story follows Doctor Steven Vincent’s tragic accident, that prevents him from performing surgery again; through an internal discovery and vast journey into a whole new understanding of the world. A master of magic, Doctor Strange dons a flowing red cape and debonaire persona that will be sure to capture audiences.

Let’s take a look at the first trailer to drop for Doctor Strange.

The trailer is somewhat less exciting than I personally hoped for. Some character changes from the comic book are evident, yet it’s clear that this is a true origin story. While this trailer focuses mostly on what looks like Act 1 and 2 of the film, I’m hoping any predeceasing trailers will show us some more magic and wonder. Marvel has been smart in not showing Doctor Strange himself perform magic, a glimpse left for later on.

Another thing we get a glimpse at is Tilda Swinton’s performance as The Ancient One. This character is the mentor of Doctor Stranger, teaching him the ways of magic. This is a change of gender rolls from the comic which portrays the Ancient One as an oriental male. Her character looks strong but not much to go off on at the moment.

It will be interesting to see Marvel’s projection of magic as represented in the comics, since they have shied away from it in their previous films, using science to explain the unexplainable, we will now get to see how they tackle the mystical and the strange.

Doctor Strange opens 4th of November this year.
